The European Union was created in order to put an end to all of the wars between neighboring countries which were brought about in the second World War. Also because constant vigilance had weakened much of Europe's political eonomy. The six founding countries consist of Belguim, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemborg, and finally the Netherlands. All of the countries listed had the most prosperous economy (out of all the countries in Europe) at the time although they were still susceptable to invaders. In order to prevent more harsh attacks from the Soviet Union and The United States the six countries joined forces.
2. Give a thorough history of the European Union.
In the 1950's The European Coal and Steel Community was the first act that benefitted the EU. It was established in order to bring them together as equals and unite them under common differences and economies. Around the late 50's the EEC was formed and the Treaty of Rome eliminated all borders, quotas, and teriffs betweeen the original six. In aproximatley 1973 the first enlargement took place and the european Union added Denmark, Uk, and Ireland to it's region. 1979 was the year of the first elected parliament, these elcetions are held every five years. In 1981 Greece, Spain, and Portragul were added. These countries benefited the EU becasue they brought in trade and other economic strenghts along the coastline. The world-wide recession in the 1980's brought about an idea that explained that all of Europe had a single market economy. This plan came into action in about February of 1987. Perhaps on e of the most historic moments was the fall of the Berlin wall in about 1989. This reunited both sides of Germany and the Soviet Union ceased to exist in Germany. Next in history was the addition of Austria, Finland, and Sweden to the EU. In 1999 the greatest achievement of the EU occured, all of the 12 countries developed a single currency by the name of the Euro. Since then Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, the three Baltic states; Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, have joined the EU which adds up to 27 countries.
3. What is the purpose of the European Union?
The first reason why the EU was created was in order to obtain peace and stability amognst the countries. This is the outcome of uniting countries under one political and govermentaly stable region. The EU was also created to enforce safety and security from the neighboring superpowers such as the soviet Union. Overall it was created to join and reunite countries with feuds and to strengthen the area politically.
4. How does the EU benefit Europeans?
The European Union benefits Europeans because it ensures safety from foreign invaders and a prosperous economy. The different types of agriculture are flourishing there. This is a good thing because it means that if one product in a certain region is failing then the other one can make up for it. Having other countries to rely on is a good thing which can therefore improve the whole region. Another reason it is beneficial is because cultures are integrated which can make individuals have a more worldly knowledge of what goes on in their lives.
5. How does the Euro benefit Europeans?
The Euro benefits all of the countries involved in the EU because they only have to have one type of currency therefore making travel a lot easier. It also made exchange rates reduce because there was nothing to exchange!
